I used to believe in it but don't now I know a lot more about it.
The problem with capital punishment is that it fundamentally doesn't work as I've outlined below.
If you don't have proper safe guards innocent people are killed and it usually leads to dictatorship. If you do have proper safe guards it's too expensive and innocent people still get killed. In USA I've heard of some places getting rid of it because it's more expensive than actually housing and feeding the prisoner for the rest of their life.
The countries that use it have increased violence and more extreme forms of it so it doesn't work as a deterrent. It leads to escalation too, where as a victim may once have been let go or survived they are killed as the criminal knows their testimony will lead to their death.
It doesn't get to the root of the problem which is the people committing the crimes have serious issues that are not being addressed. For hundreds of years we've been trying the same solution for the same problem, it doesn't work, yet we still keep doing it. Using the same faulty solution used in the dark ages (quite literally) is downright idiotic and barbaric.
If you kill someone I think you should be killed other then that not really... Unless there is a valid reason to kill the person. I can think of tons but people on here may not agree and start a argument.
