First you have to log in into your registrar and change DNS of domain to your hosting. ( click your domains, click on domain, change DNS to hosting and fill nameservers what you get in email from hosting, click save ) When you made account in hostgator you should have email with account info where you have two nameservers.

If you dont have any knowledge about domains or hosting whatsoever, would have been better to use blogspot first and get used to it.

You have to purchase a domain, one wont just show up. If you purchased a domain log into the site you purchased it from and find where it says nameservers. You can point your nameservers to the hosting and thats fairly simple.

Striving for the best.
