What is the benefit of inputting a "Recovery email" with YouTube Accounts?

I want to make a couple of YouTube accounts. YouTube does have a field where you can input a "Recovery email". That's nice and all, but signing up for a unique email account (i.e. at hotmail) to use as the "Recovery email" takes time, and it can be a pain with Hotmail's verification process(es).

I'll never need to actually use a "Recovery email".

I have seen paid YouTube accounts with the "Recovery email" provided to use. What is the benefit of inputting a "Recovery email" when making a YouTube account? Does it make YouTube think your account is "more" legit so it's less likely to get banned?

When YouTube detects unusual activity on an account it usually asks for your phone number or email address just to make sure it's really yours.
