Vortex's SEO Tutorial #1: Using 301 redirects to rank your sites on page 1

Hey Elites and welcome to my first post of my SEO series, I will try to do at least one tutorial per week.

First of all, what is a 301 redirect? A 301 redirect is the most efficient way to redirect one web address to another. For example, You can redirect www.domainA.com to www.domainB.com so when someone goes to domain A he will be redirected to domain B.

So far so good, but what does this have to do with SEO? A 301 redirect will pass 90-99% of link juice to the redirected page. (Source: moz)

This means a good 301 redirect is one of the most powerful "backlink" to get, if used right. Another great thing about them is that penalties from Google will take MUCH longer than if you built your links straight to your site. I have some 9 months old sites which where ranked using the 301 technique, and most of them are still on the first page.

How to find a good domain for a 301 redirect

There are other ways to use them for blackhat SEO, but I will just explain my technique:

1) Head over to expireddomains.net

2) Set the filter like this:

3) Search for an aged natural domain with PR and a good looking backlink profile

This step is time-consuming, but worth it. After you found a domain on expireddomains.net go to ahrefs and check the backlink profile, especially the anchor text ratios. If you see anything suspicious (for example "viagr@" as anchor text), search for another one. I also use PA/DA/CF/TF as metrics, you can view them with opensiteexplorer and with the majestic seo tool.

If PR x 10 + PA + DA + C F + TF >= 70 its usually a good domain for me.

4) Buy the domain and set up hosting for it

5) Build shitloads of backlinks to your 301 redirect domain. Since the domain is aged, and preferably already has a backlink profile, you can go hard with link building. GSA links, SAPE, PBN, anything works.
The simplest solution would be to build links with GSA or buy a Churn and Burn service.

6) Give the backlinks some time to index, and when you think your domain is strong enough 301 it over to your site.

How to 301 redirect

The simplest way of doing this is to log into your cPanel, go to 301 redirects and type in the adress of your site. Thats all.

You can also modify your .htaccess file, you can create the code here: http://www.htaccessredirect.net/ but using cPanel is alot faster and easier.

After google picks up the 301 and if you did everything right your rankings will shoot to the top in no time, here is a screenshot of one of my current projects:

If you did not reach page one with one 301 redirect you can just rince and repeat this proccess, there is no limit on how many sites that can be 301'd to your site.

I hope this tutorial was useful for some of you, if you follow it you will rank in no time.

And could you explain what is this? If PR x 10 + PA + DA + C F + TF >= 70
Thanks, great share! :)

What do you mean with "something more"?

PR = Page Rank, ranges from 1 to 10 (metric from google)
PA = Page Authority, ranges from 1 to 100 (metric from moz)
DA = Domain Authority, ranges from 1 to 100 (metric from moz)
C F = Citation Flow, ranges from 1 to 100 (metric from majestic seo)
TF = Trust Flow, ranges from 1 to 100 (metric from majestic seo)

Before I buy a domain I look up these and if they combined (PR*10) are >=70 then I buy it.

Unless you find a really good domain you will have to build links to it, it will have a much bigger effect when you 301 it over.

Since you are not building a PBN you don't have to add content, you can build links with gsa or using a Churn and Burn service, I recently launched mine.

Very interesting lesson, I knew about expireddomains(and visit everyday) but never think about this method, unfortunately domains costs extra $, is enough 1 301 domain per project and how many backlinks you usualy create per domain? also which extensions you recommand? (.com, .net, .info, .us, .org etc.)
