How important is it to have a top level domain when building a niche site? (.com, .net, .org)

Can i get along with a sub-domain or .tk?

TLD tends to look more legit and convincing, thus it will give you more conversions. Also, TLDs are much easier to rank on search engines. .tk and some other free domains are prohibited on social medias like Facebook and Google won't index these free domains.

How about sub-domains?

How about sub-domains?

Some sub-domains of TLDs like of blogger, weebly etc can be ranked easily and are recommended. But, some other TLDs which provide free sub-domains have negative reputation and thus not recommended.

That actually depends on what kind of site you are going to make. Weebly, blogger, webs, wordpress will not let you build a completely customizable site and use it through their sub-domains. You need to rely on their platforms to build sites. I believe someone here once shared a method to get sub-domains from many different domains but unfortunately, I don't remember the thread currently as I don't use others' sub-domains myself.

If you want completely custom sites on every aspect, then I will honestly suggest you to get a TLD. I think there is a coupon/method/site where you can get one year TLD for $0.98. Unfortunately, I don't remember it as well. Cry

Not really. Use fake info for that. And I believe most domain providers give free first year Who-is protection.
