I am wondering whether I should get Windows 8.1 or not....

I usually play games and do some normal computer works. I obviously prefer Mouse+Keyboard over touchscreen.

So, I was wondering whether I should get it or not. Any opinions?

P.S. I haven't tried Windows 8 and I am gonna purchase a genuine Windows 8.1, not gonna pirate it.

I had it for a while, changed back a few days in. Totally not worth it. The whole OS was made for tablets/phones and simply doesn't belong on your computer. I heard the new update lets you basically have a normal desktop at all times and even the start button - so upgrading would only be worth it if you think the tablet-OS-style fits you. Personally I would stick to W7

If you have windows 7, stay with it. The new tile screen that pops up is useless, because most of the stuff you do is on desktop. Well at least it was to me, I haven't seen any performance changes between windows 8.1 and windows 7, and overall you will use the windows button a lot more to get away from the annoying tile screen.

I wouldn't do it, there are too many bugs in 8.1 so far as my concerned.
I got an internship with a computer compagny and 2/3 customers do have problems with 8.1.

I would test it first in a virtual machine before applying it on your computer :)

EDIT:________________
I got Windows 8 (not 8.1) and I'm satisfied about the "waking up" speed after I shut my pc down or put it in sleep mode.

I heard Win.8 are not secure as they let Microsoft know everything you install etc.
Also I don't like the touch screen thing on Win.8. I would stay at Win.7

I recommend you to use windows 8.1. Because if u dont want the metro u can disable it. The boot time, shutdown, overall much faster than windows 7 even using ssd. Windows 8.1 also much smoother than windows 7. Guarenteed.

But im telling you, windows 8.1 just pirated it. Maybe the next windows very very worth the money to buy. I didnt said that Windows 8.1 did not worth the money. Just save it for the next version.

I totally recommended u to upgrade.

Thanks to everyone for the opinions. Waiting for some more replies.

By the way, I prefer to purchase stuffs. So, even if it doesn't worth the money, I will still purchase Windows 8.1 if I do plan to upgrade.

Windows 8 is totally worth it in my opinion. Its a lot faster than 7. I don't know why there are so many haters.. probably they used 1 or 2 days. Once u get used to tile menu you'll actually start customizing it with your favourite games and softwares.

I stick with Arch Linux. For advanced users definitly worth the switch.
