Paid Traffic + CPA Question

Hey guys, I was speaking with a friend who is also learning CPA and we got into an argument about how to optimize your CPC with paid traffic, for example, Facebook Ads.

Does a more broad audience provide a cheaper CPC?

OR

Does a laser targeted audience provide a cheaper CPC?

My understanding is that if you can focus on a laser targeted audience for paid traffic then their is less competition for their ad space, whereas focusing on a broad audience has a lot more competition. For example: You would have to pay more to advertise to people who are interested in "iPhone" b/c there are a lot of others trying to advertise to this entire group rather than just people who are interested in "pink iPhone 7 2017" which would cost less to advertise to.

Do I have this backwards or is my understanding correct? Someone PLEASE EXPLAIN!!

It depends more on the no. of competitors targeting your audience.

If you audience interacts i.e CTR is good for your campaign then CPC goes down.

Great! Thank you!

Laser targeted audience have more conversion compare to broad audience but CPC will be higher. Anyway, you need a tracker to help you to test.

the CPC will be higher compared to targeted audiences, but the more you spend the more conversion you can receive.

I guess my issue is that I am spending but not receiving enough conversions to profit. Any advice?
