What is your experience with the behavior of a page's rank on google after updating it or changing it's content?

I had a page ranking somewhat well with poor quality content. I updated the page adding 1000+ words of non spammy written content, a new title and meta description. A few hours after updating the page all my rankings have disappeared even for keywords that my SEO focuses on.

Is this just a google dance?

I don't think i've over SEO'd the page as it's not any more keyword focused and spammy than it was before. I also don't think I've been hit by a penalty because the site was fine before I changed it's spammy content. Google why...

This happened to me as well. My site jumped back up after 2-3 days. Don't worry i guess :)

Happened to me as well, on YouTube after updating the description. Your page should get back in a couple of days or even earlier.

Now the entire site is gone from google...but my PBN sites linking to it remain indexed. Have my fingers crossed that it's not a penalty.

Well what do you think would happen if I knew you were selling cars today and later I send my son to your place and he comes back telling me you are selling trucks? Naturally I'll remove you from my recommendations.

Either way, your ranking will come back IF you have proper keyword densities etc. If everything is done right you will come back better after a few days/week.

Unfortunately, yes it can changes things for the worst. I have read about this many times and there's lots that suggest it never changes the overall ranking factors, some say updating articles is GOOD and shows Google the website is active and such. IMHO, it's best to leave already put together and optimized content well alone, it's not worth rising things for the sake of a quick update.

Just my two cents!

I had a similar situation, started a website and it was ranked on 3rd page after doing some Off-page SEO. I made some changes by removing a big portion of content and bam!! no matter how many backlinks I create it's just would not move up in google search engine.
I did a mistake by spending so much time in the hope that it will rank some day but all efforts went into vain.
Finally, I abandoned that piece of shit website and created new one.

It happens, for some of my Post they gained more higher ranking after updating while some lost the ranking and went into nowhere.

Maybe we should wait for a while and see what happens

Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to wait, but if the site isn't coming back it's not the end of the world for me. I hadn't yet posted all my content on the site so I still had unused content available. I used this as motivation to get one of my niches on its own new site made specifically for it with a good domain. It turned out looking really good and I'm really excited to see it rank.

I've learned a lot since beginning SEO. My main site I had while the site was getting me earnings, I think I was focusing too much work on it. It was holding back my earning potential since it just didn't have the power to rank with all the bad links to it that had been build up.

Now I have a fresh start and motivation. Smile
Good luck everyone to everyone and especially those having trouble with google too. Don't give up!
