Keeping IG domains 'alive' longer?

People seem to be all over the place on mitigating this. Some say they bought xyz domains and those redirect to the actual domain, though xyz seems to get banned faster now. Others have said to use 2.0s that allow iframing or redirect, though I cannot think of any that allow this. Any hints would be appreciated.
