I got scammed at work.

Tonight at work I was scammed by one of those 'quick-change artists." It sucked pretty bad, here is the play by play:

He must have scoped out the shop and realized how busy and urgent we were, and waited in line.

>He went to pay for a ~$3 item with a $20 bill.
>Asked for the $20 back and gave me a $5 (so it would be 'easier')
>Told me I only gave him a $1 in change (by this time I was skeptical) but he was rushing me as well as my assistant manager, so I gave him a $20.

So I guess he net ~$15 dollars off of me..some people are royal assholes in this world and it pisses me off to no end that I get reamed by my bosses because of some poor asshole who won't work for his money.

Agreed, such a small change con ($15). I'm sure if you add it up to everyone he cons he probably makes a decent amount. But it just ticks me off, because $15-$20 to him could mean a job to someone else. My boss let me have it, but I already have my two weeks notice in with them so what ever she said really didn't matter.

Yeah, that's like two hours of minimum wage in the U.S.

Why'd you give him $20 back instead of $1?

Ahh I see, he rushed you, and you lost the capability to think thoroughly so you handed him a $20 note because of the pressure put against you by him and your manager, and also the pressure of the public waiting in line.

You've got to learn to relax in these types of situations. Rushing is only going to save a few seconds in total, it's not worth making a mistake.

The rushing is the part of scam. So you will not be able to calculate.

It is very easy in retrospect to analyze your decision-making, but in the moment very difficult.

However, it will definitely never happen again.
