As already suggested, the best way to learn any foreign language, be it English, French, Japanese or any other language for that matter is to watch movies or TV shows in that language. That way you can understand how the locals speak. This is way more effective than learning from some book or online courses.

No offense, but this is not a good advice. What I do is I watch a tonload of TV series (obviously US TV shows) WITH english subtitles. Works like a charm. After a few years you don't even need it.

Heck, I just realized today that I have watched 2 episodes without SRT files. :D I didn't even notice, I swear.
