Google truth rankings - new program that would rank websites according to veracity

Quote:Google could launch an effort to keep trolls and bad information at bay, with a program that would rank websites according to veracity, and sort results according to those rankings. Currently, the search engine ranks pages according to popularity, which means that pages containing unsubstantiated celebrity gossip or conspiracy theories, for example, show up very high.

New Scientist’s Hal Hodson reports on the proposed Knowledge-Based Trust score:

The software works by tapping into the Knowledge Vault, the vast store of facts that Google has pulled off the internet. Facts the web unanimously agrees on are considered a reasonable proxy for truth. Web pages that contain contradictory information are bumped down the rankings.

Anti-science advocates are freaking out about Google truth rankings

Wouldn't this only affect white hat?

I don't think they will implement veracity as a ranking factor in all niches - maybe in science related, health, etc..

This troubles me. Not so much from the SEO point of view but having a "Department of Information" for Science, for example. The moment Scientific "fact" is based upon consensus, that is the moment Science stops being Science.

Opposing opinions (and Scientific studies) be damned.

I´ve always used keyword stuffing and other tricks but seems like i need to start using "truth stuffing" too.

Cheers

I think this will sound great. While I am new to the whole SEO idea and trying to get going with this, I have spent a lot of time doing writing for other clients and can become really annoyed when I get a page that has nothing to do with what I am looking for. This just seems like something that is going to make things better in my book. It might be a bit difficult for some of those trying to get paid based on the amount of views, but it really will help to bring the good sites to light and leave all of the cheaters at bay. I am curious to see how all of this is going to work in the long run.
