What is CPA Marketing (Start Here)

CPA also referred to as Cost per Action or cost per acquisition is a form of affiliate program where the publisher promotes offers that require a specific action to earn a commission. In CPA offers, you don’t actually sell the products but rather send leads to the vendor from your customers.

What Is Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing, on the other hand, entails earning commission from online retailers for sales and traffic generated from your referrals.

An action in CPA can include anything from purchasing a trial offer, signing up to a dating site, downloading a game or tool-bar, signing up for an online game, a discounted price to subscribe to a website or even completing surveys.

There are various actors involved in CPA Marketing:

This is the owner of the business or products, who pays for leads to be driven to his business. CPA marking enables merchants to have their businesses promoted by someone else and pay per the result driven to their business by the marketer.

The Affiliate is also referred to as the publisher. His major role is to drive traffic to a specific offer or to drive traffic to the merchant’s business. The can either work directly with the merchant or with the CPA Network.  Their major role is to push the merchant’s offers to the end users.

CPA Network

This is the middleman between the merchants and the publishers who serve programs and offers from the merchants to the affiliates. This is the owner of the of the CPA program. Merchants work with the advertiser to get their businesses and products promoted by the affiliate. The advertiser sub-contacts the affiliate or publisher to promote the products on his behalf.  Their roles include offering support to the affiliate and handling transactions.  There currently exist numerous CPA networks, to know the best CPA network to choose, you need to carry some individual research to establish what best suits you.

The end-user

This is the everyday user who browses the internet. He/she is not aware that they are creating value to a CPA program when they perform a certain action online. Their actions results in earnings for the network, publisher and the merchant.  

How it Ties Together

The merchants or rather owners of large companies are willing to pay the affiliates a certain amount of cash to generate leads for them. The CPA marketing is very beneficial because the CPA marketer does not need to actually generate a sale to earn. The Advertiser also benefits because they have their own strategies to monetize their lead such as through paid memberships or when a lead upgrades they keep 100% of the commission. As an affiliate, it is recommended to work with the best top CPA networks to earn a significant amount of commission.
