Facebook Password Stealing Apps Found on Android Play Store

ven after many efforts made by Google last year, malicious apps always somehow manage to make their ways into Google app store.
Security researchers have now discovered a new piece of malware, dubbed GhostTeam, in at least 56 applications on Google Play Store that is designed to get Facebook login credentials and aggressively display pop-up advertisements to users.
Discovered independently by two cybersecurity firms, Trend Micro and Avast, the malicious apps disguise as various utility (such as the flashlight, QR code scanner, and compass), performance-boosting (like file-transfer and cleaner), entertainment, lifestyle and video downloader apps.

This is nothing new to be honest, Google won't go out of their way to remove them. Look around at platforms like Facebook too, they don't give a shit either.

The play store should have some virus scanner or malicious code scanner service.

I got in the habit of using a firewall app to block internet on any app I install that doesn't explicitly require internet access to work

I do agree with your point, unless the apps get mass reported these apps won't be removed.

Do you remember the "WhatsApp Update" for Android in November 2017?

If you open the "Google Android Studio" (Java), you can read that only 7 percent (7 percent!) of all Android users do use Android 8 currently, 1 year after the release.

Therefor I never used Android as a phone/tablet OS (only for researches). I'm permanently using Apple iOS (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch).
