This is a warning, please do not download from free file sharing sites if you don't know what you are doing. I am usually very careful with this but today I saw an interesting file, (that would help me) on 4Shared and decided to download it. I am pretty sure that I got this shiiiiiiiiit on my computer from there as I haven't downloaded anything else today.

Lookie what Pinoccio included in the download :

Code:
File description : NPE File Analyzer
Type : Application
File version : 1.0.0.0
Product name : NPE File Analyzer
Product version : 1.0.0.0
Copyright : NoVirusThanks Company Srl (<--- LMAO)
Size : 258 KB
Date modified : 14/01/2014 (Today)
Language : Italian (Switzerland)
Original filename : NPE.exe

The file name is :- coin-miner.exe

I suddenly experienced my computer slowing down and crashing. So I decided to check the running processes, and voila, shit sitting right there.

I couldn't end the process even as an admin. Seems this file is associated with another file that was downloaded on 07/12/2013 called FBHack.exe. Fu*, I don't even remember downloading this. I make my own fake FBHacks and make money off of it. I don't buy this. It was only after I deleted the FBHack.exe, I could shut down the coin-miner.exe. I don't know how both were downloaded nearly a month apart and were related to each other.

Anyway, I am pretty sure some moron wanted to turn my computer into a mining slave. Check out the requests this app sent via my computer.

I guess I learnt my lesson. Whoever did this, a big F**U to you man.
My computer is performing normal again. Should I check for anything or has it been neutralized?

The weird thing is, this app worked together with another app downloaded a month ago to turn my computer into a slave miner. In genius but lame.

Oh and BTW, both the files were situated in my 'Roaming' directory inside the folder 'Mining'. This only strengthens the claim that both were associated. Maybe you guys should check your PCs.

Generally I never download any type of .exe file or anything like that, not been compromised online yet. Best just to stick with official type websites or nothing at all.

What it means don't download stuff from free file sharing sites ? Of course you will catch a virus/trojan if you do not protect your system, you can catch it even while browsing legal (but backdoor) sites. I am downloading only from free sites, torrents because i do not have the money to pay for the legit versions.. i have not reinstalled windows for more then 5 years, everything runs smoothly and virus free here. What i am trying to say is that the problem is not in these sites, it is how you use your PC.

I would never use a free anti virus. Ever!
I use Bitdefender Total Security.
