What’s the best domain, one that contains your keyword or one that has already backlinks but is not related to the niche but could be used as your brand for your niche ?

AS far as Google's Algorithm is concerned, the first one weighs more value. I can be wrong tho.

Links are more important than anything. And with recent updates where Google openly tells that they are likely to penalize partial or exact match domains (i.e. one with your keyword in domain name), I wouldn't go at all with EMD or PMD.

However say your niche was candy crush, then you are perfectly fine to create a domain name along the lines like candycrushtuts.com or candycrusher.com or similar. You get the point likely.

Also I wouldn't rely on expired domain for much long if that is what you were planning to use (as you mentioned backlinks).

Hope this helps.

Keyword in domain doesn't do much, you also have to be careful with over-optimization. Honestly fresh domains work just as good as aged ones, you won't go wrong with either one. You can simply get a generic brandable name.

Over-optimization might penalize you. But i thinking have the keyword in your domain would not help much.
