I'm personally a Web Programmer and it paid off pretty well, personally I think the cloud it's the future. This means that a lot of apps that are traditional desktop apps are moving to web apps. Chrome OS it's a great example as it is a complete OS based in cloud.

Majority of the people don't really want to do anything more then reading stuff, watching video and maybe do some basic text editing or excel, so for that, everything they need it's in the cloud. Anyways, there are many pros for the cloud, I just wanted to make a point that desktop apps are not truly the future. Don't get me wrong, of course they're not going to die, but not such a big market such as mobile apps and cloud apps.

So, that's why I think you made a great decision leaving vb and starting with Java, however, Java can be a bit overwhelming if you are a basic programmer, I think just to get the idea, you should start with Python, it's very easy to learn and it will get you started in programming.

Sorry to such a long post.

Thanx for a quick and good response. It´s always good to get confirmation on my actions. Is python and java similar or why should i focus on python first?

I really think i will get more benefit of learning java but perhaps its to learn from scratch?

Anyways, Thanx again for a quick and good response.

I would suggest you learn html/css/php/jquery and start designing websites. That's what I plan on doing.

Hey, sorry for a very delayed answer. Well they have a lot of similarity, but after all most of the programming languages do.
I suggested you start with Python because it's syntax it's very simple and it's quite close to plain english.
However, Java it's a bit harder then Python obviously.

I would def go for Python because you can really make some killer stuff with it, I have tons of friends who make $400 a day making bots/spamming tools for his clients.
