Can I Rank For This Keyword?

Posted this on tbn because cpaelites wasn't loading on my computer.

Can I rank for a health related keyword that has the following websites as ranking for the top 10 spots?

Please note: This keyword will be the main keyword in somewhat of an authority site.

Please note: I didn't post the actual links but the top 10 sites have long urls for the specific pages that I'm trying to outrank. Im not trying to beat "Huffingtonpost.com" nor "abcnews.com". I'm trying to beat "huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/06/my-selected-keywords_n_2246243.html" For example.
Yahoo Answers
Huffington Post
Urban Dictionary
Wikihow
Military.com
abcnews.go
Youtube video (Not Optimized For My Keyword) But it's a very popular video by a even more popular channel
Askmen (not optimized for my keyword but is a really good article)
Fitness.mercola.com
Wikipedia

Other related keywords that I would try and rank for with smaller niche websites have similar websites in the top 10 but less competition.

Oh wow. Thought that maybe it would be do-able but just would take a good amount of work.

If yahoo answers is the top competitor then how hard can it be to rank for?

I don't agree with you. Those authority sites aren't optimized for the keywords. They rank there most of the time just because they have that authority.

But if you run the keyword through f.e Traffic Travis you can see that they aren't optimized at all and thus you can outrank them pretty easily.

That's exactly what I was thinking! None of them are optimized, not even one bit and if yahoo answers outranked them I can surely outrank yahoo answers with good seo.

Thanks a lot for your post, I almost gave up on the keyword(s)

I'm sure their authority made them rank without too many backlinks and optimization. So you can beat them with good onpage optimization and HQ link building.
The only sites you would struggle with would be your competition who use it as a money site and has great backlinks and onpage SEO! Wink
