Can HTTPS websites be hacked?

Hello guys so I was talking with a friend of mine who has exploited some sites but then I pitched a question to him that "https" website's passwords cannot be intercepted and then he challenged me it can be done.

I don't know if this is possible but after the recent leak of the CIA news I'm a bit skeptical.

Can someone enlighten me?

The data can be intercepted but the packets are encrypted so it won't be possible to read it. However, intercepting traffic and hacking are two different topic altogether. An HTTPS site can still be hacked by exploiting any vulnerability or through other means.

Right now I want to know if I enter my details on an "https" site and if somehow he is monitoring me. Will he be able to get my details etc?

Any server can be hacked, no matter if you use http, https or any other protocol.

SSL certificates for the usage with https are only secure if nobody else did bad things to your server. So SSL encrypted traffic is not secure.

And additionally everybody could do a so called "man in the middle" attack even with SSL traffic. You can research about tools called "packet sniffers", for example you can decrypt SSL traffic of iOS Apps with a macOS tool named "Charles".
