Mario Balotelli scored with a second-half header Saturday to give Italy a 2-1 win over England at the World Cup.

The Italy striker was left free by his marker Gary Cahill and nodded a cross from Antonio Candreva past goalkeeper Joe Hart in the 50th minute.

Claudio Marchisio scored first for Italy, sending a long shot through a crowded area and past a diving Hart in the 35th. Daniel Sturridge equalized for England two minutes later, tapping in a cross from Wayne Rooney.

Yeah, England played better than the previous world cup where they stood around.

Italy really turned it around for themselves this time; they played very good.

England need to stop running around in circles like headless chickens and take advantage of the shots they could have cleared. We shouldn't have swapped up up some of their positions. Sterling played well.

This is the first World Cup for 2/3 of the England team right now, hopefully they'll up their game and fix their faults next time.

If they play good they can get 6 points and get to the next round :)

Hah well Germany is pretty good so I wouldn't be overly confident. Wink

On a side note, England needs to drop Rooney and Gerrard out of the national team, they're just holding back new talent.

Rooney is hardly a 'striker', he is old talent now. I hope our manager has some balls and does something about it.

Gerrard is the best holding midfielder we have.
Rooney is awful. Why he keeps getting game time is beyond me

True but we can only focus on recent years, right? Judging on the past 6-7 years, they're pretty much keeping it even.
