Any Photoshop Experts Out There?

I'll try to explain what I'd like to do with an image, hopefully somebody can describe what I need to do.

I'd like to put a black "tint" over my image. This way, any light colored text I put on the image can be easily seen. Adjusting the Brightness just makes the whole image blacker, and the Shadows/Highlights doesn't seem to fit the bill either. Also, the "tinting" feature seems to just make all the colors of the image black and white.

Does anybody know how I can put a black, transparent layer over my image to make it darker?

You slap some big black rectangle on your picture and then make the rectangle transparent. It's very easy.

I need to do it for many images. I want to do it to OMGWTFISTHIS's V6 template here: http://landingv6.blogspot.com/

The space background is nice and dark. I want to change it to random banners for each niche I make. But, many of the images I want to use have bright colors, so the white title text would be washed away. It'd be great if I could somehow "tint" the images I want. Does that make sense?

apetrov this is what I was thinking too. Unfortunately, I'm extremely new to PS and have no idea how to do this. :(

Yeah, what you need to do is pretty simple. You want to go to New Layer, and on that new layer, fill it with black.
Then, you go to your layer settings and lower the opacity to around 10-20%. That should do the trick!

Hope this helped you out!

Yeah, you could do this with CSS and lower the opacity of the overlay. I'll show you on Skype.
