Having your video in unlisted or public is irrelevant to its ranking position. The reason why most of us put videos in unlisted for a week or longer , is so that the video gains strength and when will stand up to at least a couple of flags after changing it to public.

You also need to keep track of your ranking, and to keep track of your HR views. Go to analytics to see just how much is the retention rate of the views , 90% above would be great.

Also, it takes some time before the views affect your ranking, just keep checking its rank for a week or two and see if it improved.

As I said , it doesn't really affect your rankings whether you receive views in unlisted or public.

We put videos in unlisted so that they could age a bit, before releasing them out in public. Being in unlisted, no one can flag your videos down while they grow to being a week old or 2 weeks old.

A video 1 week + older can take more flags rather than a video that is 3 days old.
